Assignment 2

Assignment 2 has a hand-in date of 28 April — two weeks from today, 14 April. Work handed in late will be assigned a mark of zero so hand in what you have on time.

Week 9

We solved some more differential equations using Laplace Methods. After this ye worked on exercises.

Week 10

I will say a few things about damped harmonic oscillators on Monday and give you some more time to work on exercises. After this we will look at systems of differential equations.

Weeks 11 & 12

We will look at double and triple integrals.

If you have missed Excel labs, you should get the lab off me in the lecture and complete it in your own time. There is a 15% Excel Test in Week 12.

Maple Labs — Wednesday 13 April is a ‘Maple’ Night

Due to the large number of students attending the module MATH6038 Mathematics for Science 2.2, we now have to introduce a lab split. 

If your name is listed under February 2016, 17 Wednesday, 6.00 pm here (i.e. the first column), you should come in at 18:00. Otherwise come in for a 19:15 start.

The following is the new proposed schedule for Weeks 9, 11 and 12(test)

Group 1 – Starts at 18:00 and Finishes at 20:50:

Wednesdays 18:00-19:05 – Maple Lab in room C128

Wednesdays 19:15-20.55 – Theory class in room C214

Group 2 – Starts at 19:15 and Finishes at 22:00:

Wednesdays 19:15-20.55 – Theory class in room C214

Wednesdays 20:55-22:00 – Maple Lab in room C128

Week 8

In Week 8 we finished Chapter 2 on Statistics.

Week 9

We will do one more exam question on statistics before moving on to Probability.

Catch Up Lectures

We will be in C214 for a lecture at 09:00 Wednesday April 20.

Test 2 will take place in B149 at 16:00 Wednesday April 28.

This is to make up for Tuesday 5 April when we missed two lectures as I had to attend a funeral in Kerry.

Week 1*: Easter Catch-Up Class

I had planned on having a ‘Maple’ night Wednesday 23 March during the Easter break but considering where we are in the notes this is not going to be possible.

Instead we will have a revision class where will work on the following questions in the lecture to help us revise for the test immediately after Easter. When I have finished working on these we will have a break and return to room B228 which has loads of room so I can go around helping people one-to-one.

Here is a summary of the Linear Algebra Methods.

Students are advised to attend because although I intend to record the examples I do, I cannot guarantee that the recording is successful.

Test 1

Test 1 will take place 6 April in Week 8 in B149. The test I gave last time I taught this module is at the end of Chapter 1.

Test

The Test will take place in IT2 at 10:00 this Wednesday 16 March. After the test we will have a class as normal from 11:15-12:00.

The Test will take a Q.1 from a past exam paper and a Q.2 from a past exam paper. You will also be given the following stats tables.
