I am emailing a link of this to everyone on the class list every week. If you are not receiving these emails or want to have them sent to another email address feel free to email me at jpmccarthymaths@gmail.com and I will add you to the mailing list.

Assignment 1

These have been corrected and the results have been emailed to you. I will do out the solutions and send them to you at 8.45 pm on Friday 31 October. At 10 am that morning I will give ye individual feedback on your projects while ye try some cantilever questions.

To guard against complacency I will draft a sample exam that we will sit on Friday 28 November in Week 11 or Friday 5 December in Week 12. This will be a tough paper that will give ye an indication of where ye are sitting before the final stages of study.

If we sit it in Week 11 it will contain less statistics but will be corrected by me and we will do the Autumn 2014 paper in Week 13. If we can’t sit it until Week 12 we will go through it in Week 13.

Assignment 2

I should be able to complete this on Friday 24 October and will email it to ye then. Assignment 2 will have a hand-in date in Week 10 and will be concerned with beam equations — both their exact solution as has been studied by us lately and also numerical/approximate solutions as will be explored in Chapter 3.

Week 6

In Week 6 we continued with the second chapter on Differential Equations — with a particular emphasis on Beam Equations.

Week 7

We will finish off our study of beams by looking at cantilevers in the first class on Wednesday. Then we will begin the third chapter on Taylor Series.

Please feel free to ask me questions about the exercises via email or even better on this webpage — especially those of us who struggled in the test.
