Assignment 2

Has been sent to you. Please read the emails carefully — especially those regarding the various typos. The hand-up date is Friday 21 November.

Week 8

We finished off talking about Maclaurin Series and spoke about more general Taylor Series near x\neq 0. Then we will started the section on the numerical solution of differential equations that we need for the second assignment.

Week 9

We will finish off the section on the numerical solution of differential equations that we need for the second assignment by going through the Three Term Taylor Method. Then we will get into the applications of partial differentiation to multivariable Taylor Series (f(x,y)\approx \sum \alpha_{ij}x^iy^j) and error analysis.

Sample Exam

To guard against complacency I will draft a sample exam that we will sit on Friday 28 November in Week 11 or Friday 5 December in Week 12. This will be a tough paper that will give ye an indication of where ye are sitting before the final stages of study.

If we sit it in Week 11 it will contain less statistics but will be corrected by me and we will do the Autumn 2014 paper in Week 13. If we can’t sit it until Week 12 we will go through it in Week 13.
