I am emailing a link of this to everyone on the class list every week. If you are not receiving these emails or want to have them sent to another email address feel free to email me at jpmccarthymaths@gmail.com and I will add you to the mailing list.
Week 4*
We introduced matrices as linear maps and discussed some of their properties..
Week 5*
A Maple week first of all. See below for information on lab split.
We will begin talking about the Gauss-Jordan Algorithm for finding matrix inverses and see how they are useful in solving matrix equations. In particular, we will learn that we can rewrite and solve a linear system as a matrix equation.
Maple Labs
Due to the large number of students attending the module MATH6038 Mathematics for Science 2.2, we now have to introduce a lab split. If you can make the 18:00 Lab on time you should come at the early time: otherwise come in for 19:15
The following is the proposed schedule for Weeks 3, 5, 1*, 7, 9, 11:
Group 1 – Starts at 18:00 and Finishes at 20:50:
Wednesdays 18:00-19:05 – Maple Lab in room TBA
Wednesdays 19:15-20.55 – Theory class in room C214
Group 2 – Starts at 19:15 and Finishes at 22:00:
Wednesdays 19:15-20.55 – Theory class in room C214
Wednesdays 20:55-22:00 – Maple Lab in room TBA
Test 1
Test 1 will take place 6 April in Week 8.
Independent Learning: Exercises
You are supposed to be working outside of class and I am supposed to help you with this. Working outside of class means doing the exercises in the notes. Any work that is handed up will be corrected by me. Also you can ask me a question here on this site and I will answer it ASAP.
Questions you can do include
P.31: Q.1-4, 9. Q. 5,6,8 are additional and question 8 can be ignored if you want
P.36 there are some exercises in the middle of the page
P.45 Q.1-3. Q.4,5 are harder and should be starred 4*, 5*
