Assessment 1

Three things must be submitted:

  • a soft,digital, copy of your Excel file MATH7019A1 – Your Name
  • a hard copy of your Excel file MATH7019A1 – Your Name
  • your written work

Email the soft copy to me.

Combine the second two elements into one report. Ideally the Excel work for Problem A near the written work for Problem A, etc. If this isn’t easy, maybe just put all the written work at the front, and all the Excel work at the back.

The assignment can be handed up during tutorial:

  • Today, 16:00-18:00 in B228, or
  • Tomorrow, 11:00-12:00 (A243L) or 12:00-13:00 (A213B)

Otherwise drop the assessment to my office A283. I will be here, tomorrow, Friday 11 October, until 17:30 sharp (which is the deadline).

Work assigned late will be awarded a mark of zero. Hand up what you have on time.

Week 5

We had an extra tutorial on Monday.

We then looked at more examples of simply supported beams before moving onto fixed-end beams.

Week 6

We will finish looking at fixed end beams before looking at cantilevers.

We will not have a tutorial on Monday.

Assessment 2

Assessment 2 is on p.137. It will have a hand in date of Monday 18 November and you can already do Problem A. By Monday you will be able to do Problem B. By the end of the week you will be able to do Problem C.

By perhaps Monday Week 7 you will be able to do Problem D and thus all of the questions, giving you four weeks to complete the assignment (including Reading Week).

You should be able to leave whenever you want. If you feel this is working well for you, invite more colleagues.

You can ask anything you want about MATH7019 in the group. I recommend using photos to highlight exercises or your efforts, etc. As the best way to learn is to teach, ideally other students in the group will answer questions. Every morning I will answer unanswered questions.

It is good to put some humanity into everything we do, but do not even approach the line of inappropriateness. Keep things professional please.

Academic Learning Centre

If you are a little worried about your maths this semester, perhaps after the Quick Test or in general, I would just like to remind you about the Academic Learning Centre. Most students received slips detailing areas of maths that they should brush up on. The timetable is here.

CIT Mathematics Exam Papers

These are not always found in your programme selection — most of the time you will have to look here.

Please feel free to ask me questions about the exercises via email or even better on this webpage — especially those of us who struggled in the test.
